SKIN CANCER RISK FACTORS


Everyone should be getting checked for skin cancer at least one a year...... no matter how young you are & everyone should be using products to protect the skin from Sun exposure.
 
Below are a few factors that may increase risk of skin cancer.
 
Moles
Fair Skin
History of Sunburns
Excessive Sun Exposure
Sunny or High-altitude Climates
Precancerous Skin Lesions
Family History of Skin Cancer
Personal History of Skin Cancer
Weakened Immune System
Exposure to Arsenic
 
 
Three Types of Skin Cancer:

Basal Cell Carcinoma
This is the most common form of skin cancer. One out of every three new cancers is skin cancer and most are Basal Cell Carcinoma. This cancer is in the basal cells, which are at the bottom of the epidermis. The cause is mostly by exposure to sunlight.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
This is the second most common cancer of the skin. Most affected are those with fair skin, frequent sun exposure, ultraviolet light exposure and severe sunburns as a child. It develops in the outer layer of the skin. Early treatment is important since the squamous call carcinoma may spread to other areas of the body. Such as the lymph nodes and organs.
Melanoma
This is the most dangerous skin cancer. Of all skin cancer related deaths, 79% are from Melanoma. This disease develops in melanocytes cells that produce skin pigmentation. It is most likely to metastasize to lymph nodesand other parts of the bodyost here.
